How to remove Pen Drive or Memory card Write Protection in Windows XP

Sometimes our pen drives or memory cards shows an error message as "DEVICE WRITE PROTECTED. UNABLE TO FORMAT THE DEVICE"

this error can easily be resolved by using the following process.

1.Go to windows start menu.
2.click on Run..
3.There enter the command as REGEDIT

A new window will open named "Registry Editor"

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SYSTEM --> CURRENTCONTROLSET --> STORAGEDEVICE POLICIES --> WRITE PROTECT

here if the WRITE PROTECT bit is 1. set the bit to 0.

now your problem is solved.
